As an Intuive, Julia sees the world (both its “seen” and “unseen” parts) through a language of color, movement, form and feelings. To process these impressions and to deal with her own imagination, she finds relief and comprehension on the canvas.

The primary purpose of her artwork is to translate the energy she reads into physical reality. To create an image that is generated through her visual sensibilities.

Julia wants to provide a moment of complete stillness to the viewer. Can the person see through her and one self’s different emotional layers? Finding something unexpected yet so well-known guided by one’s own imagination, realizing that everything is unified?

Julia Vollmer wants to give the viewer more. Expressive and unconventional techniques are used.

She combines oil pastels, acrylics, pigments and varnish with materials such as putty, sand and mortar to bring the images in her head to external reality.

By generously adding different layers, the natural materials create a depth that makes it seem as if her paintings instantly come to life.

The painting process is instinct driven yet process oriented. Julia approaches the canvas without a concrete plan stepping into a cooperative relationship with the material to allow her intuitive raw energy to unfold and to let the process grow naturally on its own.
